Karsten's obsession with all things fish "ish" and whales "whale whale" helped solidify our decision to take him to Sea World while in San Antonio. We went ahead and bought season passes because if you go twice during a season it pays for itself and we know we'll be returning at least once or twice before the end of the year. Next time we hope to return with some friends!
We had been talking to him all about Sea World as we prepared for our trip. We stayed at a Fairfield Inn near Sea World and he was in awe of the inside of the elevator door that showcased photos of Shamu. We knew he was in for a treat.
It ended up being the perfect day to be there; overcast and not too hot! We didn't partake in any of the rides, but kept busy with the Sea Lion show, aquarium, the Shamu show, the Dolphin Show and the Bay of Play.
First up was the Sea Lion show which mesmerized Karsten. I wish I could know what he was thinking. After that show he has the word "seal" down pat!
He loved the Bay of Play...an area themed around Sesame Street with nets to climb on (which he did over and over and over again), huge splash pads, and a carousel. He wasn't to sure about the Sesame Street characters though!
After lunch we went straight to the One Ocean show featuring 5 "shamus". We sat quite a few rows back from the action, but Karsten was scared to death. Photos of whales don't do the size of whales justice. He was wrapped around me with a death grip and would only look at the whales once in awhile. **let me just say that although I enjoyed the Shamu show..it's just not as good when the trainers are on the side of the tank*** The dolphin/beluga whale show was much more entertaining! Of course, we'll always go to the Shamu show because who doesn't love seeing orcas in real life! Real Whale watching is on my bucket list!
He liked the whale statues outside the pavillion much better than the real thing!
At 4:30 we headed out of the park. We were all exhausted and had dinner plans with the Newcoms. We couldn't leave without a souveneir. Though the real thing scared him he wanted a stuffed "whale whale" which he has slept with every night since. (I really need to get him saying whale whale on video, because it's truly my favorite thing he says in his squeaky two year old voice)
