After giving 3 Hearts Design a trial run (Oct-Dec) I realized a few things:
1. I truly enjoyed it and can't wait to continue.
2. I need to get a tax id number (check)...just need to mail the appropriate forms to Austin, TX.
3. I need to get a DBA (doing business as) to secure my name, "3 Hearts Design" in my county. (check)
4. I needed to rearrange my office, because creating on the dining table was driving me (and probably my husband) crazy. So, with some Christmas money in hand I bought a few essential things: a table and some place to store my supplies.
Words cannot begin to express just how thrilled I am with my new studio. Brian and I both agree it's much more of a studio now, so that's what it will be called...although I'm sure "office" will slip from my mouth a time or two.
It all began with this piece....the steal of a lifetime that I found in a random, consignment shop/antique store that I'd never been in before. Now, I've been in many antique shops in my life and have always admired this kind of piece of furniture, but was never willing to pay $500+ for it. Just not in this girl's budget....until I found this baby for $90!!!! It's a genuine antique with tongue and groove construction.
I chose not to paint it because for now I like the rustic/antique look. In this I store my Project Life stuff, ribbon, and some art stuff in the bottom.
My other purchase was this table from World Market. I wanted something rustic looking but with stability...sometimes rustic tables are quite wobbly. I love the metal legs with the wooden top...and the fact that I got it on sale with an additonal coupon! You can see that my desk is now on the wall and the computer desk is gone (in our extra bedroom which is now serving as Brian's office when he works from home.)I found that cubby container thing on the table at another antique store. I'm storing some of my paints and extra office supplies in there.
The expedit shelf is still on the left wall, but I've moved a lot of supplies out (that I plan on selling soon) and made room for my Project Life albums (2010-current). I also placed all of my Kelly Rae Roberts canvases on the wall above. I'm so inspired by her artwork. Those apothcary jars will soon be filled with ribbon.
The small expedit was moved next to the large one and holds files, page protectors, etc. On top of it is my Silhouette Cameo. When I need to cut something I just take my laptop over there and plug it in.
My desk holds my computer, printer, planner and a few odds and ends. I love that I can swivvel around from my computer to my table...currently (after these photos were taken) I am working on some custom, canvas orders so I have my table covered with a tablecloth and there are canvases spread out. I hope to schedule 1 week a month to work on canvases, and the rest of the time my table will be cleared off. One thing I learned from last fall was that I need to schedule time to create and schedule time to make room for other things in life....otherwise I will become consumed in my art and that's not healthy for me or my family.
Thanks for stopping by my studio!
I just LOVE your studio, the pieces you've found and put together are really fabulous! What an enjoyable space to create in.
