Dear Karsten---
I can hardly believe you're 5 months old already!!! (It seems that each monthly update begins with that sentence!) Although I miss you being a tiny little 7 lb baby you are so much fun right now. Everything is new and exciting to you which gives Daddy and I a new perspective on things we would consider mundane and boring.
This month you've begun cutting your first tooth. It's still under the gum, but I can see a little white spot and you continue to gnaw and drool constantly. We are very thankful for Hylands teething tablets which help to ease the discomfort. Can you see it?
You've moved from eating rice cereal to oatmeal and just yesterday you had carrot puree for the first time. At first you made a funny face, but quickly realized you liked them and chowed down. You have eating with a spoon down, but still make a mess. We feed you in the bumbo, without a shirt and you open wide when you see the spoon. Mommy plans on making your baby food once we get into our new house, but for now we're going to use organic, store bought baby food. It is evident by these photos that you're not missing any meals. Although you're clearly gaining weight you seem to be losing lots of hair, but some of it seems to be growing back in already.
Your favorite activies are playing "jet pilot" with Daddy where he flies you around the house, and you love jumping in your jumperoo. You've learned how to play with toys on the jumperoo and are fascinated every time you play with them. You still enjoy your farmyard play mat too. Now you pull the animals and try to put them in your mouth. Sophie giraffe is your favorite toy and you love gnawing on her hooves. You still love your wubanubs and now like to cuddle with them. Squealing in delight is a sound we now hear daily. You also babble to yourself and your toys on a regular basis.
Your newest trick is rolling over and you now prefer to sleep on your stomach. Sometimes you get stuck on your stomach though and need help. You're pretty much sleeping through the night. You might wake up once and want to be placed on your back and given your pacifier, but you quickly drift off to sleepyland again.
A few times a week I let you watch a Baby Einstein video. You are mesmerized by them and will watch the entire 30 minute film. You still take one morning nap, one long afternoon nap and sometimes a nap in the evening. You typically go to bed around 8:30, but we wake you up to feed you again at 10. You are always mad when we wake you up, but you get over it quickly because you're groovy!
Yes, you are still Mr. Groovy. Content and happy in every situation. You don't like to be held all the time and enjoy playing independently (I'd like to think I trained you to be that way). EVERYWHERE we go I get comments on how cute, adorable, precious, happy, smiley, and content you are. I've been told you need to be a Baby Gap model (I agree, of course) and the other day someone said you look like me!!! They say adopted children begin to resemble their parents, but seriously. I guess we do have very similar lips and brown eyes! If only, I had your beautiful skin coloring!
Karsten you are the sunshine in our lives. We are so blessed with a happy and healthy baby. We couldn't have asked for a more precious child and we're thankful everyday that God selected you for us---and us for you. I can hardly wait to see what new experiences the next month brings for our family. One of which will be moving into our new home---yippee!!!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy
