Brian and I spent most of the afternoon cleaning out our garage. It was a "hot mess" as I like to say! There were about 6 boxes full of junk that has been sitting in the same place for probably the 7 years we've lived here. These are boxes that didn't even get moved when we temporarily moved after the hurricane. One of the boxes was full of books that we took to Goodwill this afternoon. I figured if I hadn't needed them in 7 years I didn't need to hold onto them. Some of the teaching stuff I packed up for my cousin's girlfriend who has just begun her student teaching. Some of the first grade stuff I set aside for my 6 year old cousin Emma who will be visiting next weekend. A lot of it is ready to be taken to the curb on Monday...but there were a few things that I just couldn't let go of...one box in particular that was splattered with drywall compound because it lived in the house during the renovation, but then was stuck in the garage for some reason. In this box I found MY LIST...my list of qualities I wanted in a husband.
As I stood in the garage and read this list written in my college dorm room on Oct 2, 1994, when I was only 19 years old, I only hoped and prayed that God would bring someone to me that fit my requirements. Qualities that were important to me at the time...and all of which are even more important to me today.
Here are the qualities I wanted (and now have) in a husband:
1. Christian; Christ at the center of his life; our marriage must be Christ centered; we must depend and look up to God in every situation (check)
2. Must want children and want to be a devoted father (check)
3. Must love me in everyway; must help me and support my occupation as a mother and teacher (check, check)
4. Wants to bring our children up to be cultured by sight-seeing, traveling, reading to them, going to museums and festivals, having family projects, and teaching them about God from the day they are born. (check)
5. Must love his and my family (check)
6. Must like the outdoors/nature (check)
7. Must be romantic, honest, compassionate, caring, loving, funny, and my best friend (check)
8. Must help me around the house and help me with the kids. (check on the first one...but I know he'll help with the kids too)
9. Must be somewhat independent/have his own hobbies and interests (check)
10. Must be educated and have a good job (check)
If you are still waiting for your prince charming and you haven't created a list I highly recommend it. I remember when Brian and I started dating I went to this list to see if he fit my requirements...and he did....so I kept him :)
and he decided to keep me too :)
and he even asked me to be his wife (photo taken at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens right after he proposed...see the Bible he's holding...that's what he hid the ring box in...he's very clever) I also found this photo in the box
Okay Angela, this one made me cry. AND say a prayer for someone who I know has a list and is waiting ever so patiently on God to fulfill that list. Thanks!!! Love you Auntie Karol
