Monday afternoon I drove to San Antonio to spend a few creative days with Kelly. She texted me the night before and told me to bring a few magazines and an old book, so I knew she had something super creative planned, but I had no idea what. As soon as I arrived Monday evening she took me to the computer to view what she wanted to make---it's called mulit media art---and it's something I have admired for a long time, but I thought was really complicated. I actually have a piece of Kelly Rae Robert's multimedia art (well a copy of her art...not an original) that hangs in my scrapbook room.
The thing I love about this is that I truly felt like an artist creating this little masterpiece. I found such joy in playing with paint, paper, and glue and seeing the final product form, one layer at a time. My scrapbooking style is very simple: clean lines, organized layouts, and as symmetrical as I can get. This was completely the opposite, which is why I found it so liberating.
We started with these: blank canvases
and after lots of paper, paint, and mod podge those blank canvases evolved into these:
I will be making more this weekend and posting instructions...
