3 weeks ago my Mom and I attended the Among Friends conference at my former church, Gateway Community Church. The sole reason I wanted to go to this conference was to hear Bible Study teacher, Kelly Minter, live. Her study, No Other Gods, captivated and challenged me in a way that no other study has in the past. Though I still continue to fight gods in my life, her study has made me more aware of their prescence in my life and has heightened my sensitivity to creating boundaries to keep them out! I highly recommend it and you can order it here. It's not a video driven study and you could do it with a group of friends or individually.
Hearing her speak and being able to meet her was so amazing. The one thing I took away from her talk was this: Women need to be very careful what we allow into our lives as influences. We already have a tendency to compare ourselves to others and to keep ourselves so busy that we lose sight of the important things. In order to fight the world's influence in our life we need to spend less time on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, blogs, etc....and more time in God's Word. If we want to see change in our lives it begins with how we're spending our time. Convicting---um...totally!
Confession: Since returning to work (thus having to get up earlier in order to get everything done before I leave at 7:45) I have totally been slacking on my time with the Lord. If I get 5 minutes of God's Word a day I'm doing well. However, I've noticed I have no problem spending a majority of my evening (once K is in bed) playing on the computer. Conviction has set in and it's time to make a change. Not only get up a bit earlier, but also make sure I'm studying more in the evenings instead of filling my time with meaningless stuff.
Kelly singing...I had no idea she could write music, sing, and teach...she's one talented chick
I bought the companion paperback book to No Other Gods to read...so far it's really good and different enough from the Bible Study that I recommend it. The best part...she was standing right there and I got to chat with her while she signed my book!
