Let me first begin by saying how thrilled I am that my parents will be moving to Texas in the very near future!!! Though they won't be in my neighborhood, or even city, it will be fantastic having them just a few hours away. I see many future weekends hanging out in the Hill Country (the most beautiful part of TX in my opinion).
After having their home on the market for a year it finally sold to a buyer who appreciates the uniqueness that it holds. My Dad designed and built our home when I was just 3 years old and it has been our family home since then. It's been remodeled several times and is full of character, charm, and thousands of memories.
I made my way back to Illinois last week for one last glimpse of the house that built me. I'm so happy I took the time and airline points to spend a few days there with my parents (and Karsten). While at home I was able to see one of my dearest friends, Tiffany, who I've known since I was 3. We both talked about childhood memories and how we sometimes can't believe we are now the age our parents were when we were little girls playing with dolls and getting lost in the woods surrounding my house.
One evening as I watched the fireflies twinkle in the yard I said a prayer of thanks for being raised in such a wonderful home with 2 loving parents, and 1 bratty brother. Then I realized that I am living out what my parents lived years ago. I'm now the parent raising my child in a loving home. I'm at the age now that my Mom was when I was 10....woah!
and so, life goes on.....but I will always hold tightly to the memories held within the walls of the house that built me.
and of course I had to share one of my favorite Miranda Lambert songs, "The House that Built Me"
